Tailored Careers Guidance
Every student in our Sixth Form benefits from a 121 careers interview to guide them in exploring potential future career pathways, and formulate the strategies they need to be successful in getting into these fields.
Weekly career bulletins keep students informed about employment trends, work experience opportunities, and apprenticeships. Throughout their studies, students receive guidance on CV writing and interview techniques, as well as career goal setting and mentoring opportunities delivered by external employers. This support is highly valued by students and helps them progress toward their future aspirations.
UCAS
At the start of the summer term, all Year 12 students are guided through the UCAS application process. They receive excellent support through assemblies, tutor time, PSHE workshops, and one-to-one conversations with the Sixth Form Team.
We actively promote UCAS fairs, university open days, and events to help students explore their options. By Year 13, the application process is well underway. For students aspiring to study at Oxbridge or pursue a career in Medicine, we offer a dedicated support programme, including interview preparation and guidance on potential presentations. The deadline for these applications is in September of Year 13, while all other students have a November deadline. This ensures they receive offers early and have clear goals to work toward.
Finally, we provide comprehensive information on student finance, and students are encouraged to confirm their offers in Year 13, allowing them to finalise the process well before exams begin.
Apprenticeships
Although we expect all students to apply to UCAS we encourage students to consider apprenticeships and will support them with the process of applying for these. The apprenticeships offer a range of opportunities including Level 3 apprenticeships for students who decide to pursue these in year 12 and Higher Apprenticeships for year 13 students. Support and clear thinking are key to ensure that the apprenticeships are suitable and obtainable and this is something that our careers advisor will offer guidance with. The application to apprenticeships is less uniform than UCAS and different employers will ask for different things in the application and interview process but again, we support out students to be prepared and make sure that they are ready to be selected.
