Careers Programme

Sixth form students are encouraged to have a careers interview with our careers advisor and seize the opportunities provided within the weekly updates on possible work experience and apprenticeship vacancies. These offers allow students in the Sixth Form to keep abreast of employment trends and openings as they occur. Students are given guidance on CV writing and interview techniques and this is something that they appreciate and helps them move forward with their future aspirations

UCAS

At the start of the Summer Term all year 12 students are led through the UCAS application process.  Students are given excellent support with their applications through assemblies, tutor time and PSHE workshops as well as one to one conversations with the Sixth Form Team. By year 13 the process is well under way and for any student wishing to study at Oxbridge and/or a career in Medicine we have a specific programme of support and guidance to ensure that students are prepared for interview and any potential presentations requested of them. Deadlines for these applications are in September of year 13. All other students  have a November application deadline which means they then have the reassurance of offers and knowing what they are working towards. Finally we ensure that students are provided with comprehensive information regarding student finance. Students are encouraged to confrim their offers in year 13 to finalise the process in plenty of time before the examinations begin.

Apprenticeships

Although we expect all students to apply to UCAS we encourage students to consider apprenticeships and will support them with the process of applying for these.  The apprenticeships offer a range of opportunities including Level 3 apprenticeships for students who decide to pursue these in year 12 and Higher Apprenticeships for year 13 students. Support and clear thinking are key to ensure that the apprenticeships are suitable and obtainable and this is something that our careers advisor will offer guidance with. The application to apprenticeships is less uniform than UCAS and different employers will ask for different things in the application and interview process but again, we support out students to be prepared and make sure that they are ready to be selected.
