Ernest Bevin Academy Sixth Form provides a high level of pastoral support that students have described as essential for their personal development. Each student has a designated tutor who they see on a daily basis and we have created a system where many of the tutors are also the main or one of the teachers of the students in the group. Tutors lead registration each day and ensure students are ready for their learning and also try to encourage the students to develop their oracy and thinking skills. As well as the tutors themselves, the Sixth Form Team are also on hand to support students with anything that they are unsure about or matters of concern. Wellbeing and personal development are always a consideration with the students in the Sixth Form.
Students are led through a programme of PSHE each week through a designated lesson on Tuesdays. This is led by the tutors who are provided with high quality resources that cover all of the necessary PSHE areas of the curriculum as relevant to sixth form students. This programme supports students with their learning and gives opportunity for debate, critical thinking and also self-awareness as students learn about a range of important topics that are both life skills and support for their emotional and social wellbeing.
There are a number of opportunities for students to benefit from enrichment activities in the Sixth Form
Student voice and opinions matter to us and we look to our students to lead at all levels of Sixth Form and whole school life. All students are expected to be an inspirational role model to other students. However, there are many roles that require specific student leadership. Elected students are given the responsibility and ownership over various areas of school life as well as the autonomy to develop their role, which in turn, develops their leadership skills:
